The Buffalo Police Department has released body camera footage from Saturday afternoon’s officer-involved shooting on Broadway and Liddell Street.
In the newly released video, a civilian is seen approaching a police vehicle and pointing out an individual on the sidewalk. An officer then pulls over as the audio begins. The officer can be heard asking, “Who?” and “Is that actually him or no?”
Another officer then approaches the person and orders him to drop a pair of scissors and box cutter before a brief struggle takes place on the ground.
During the encounter, the suspect can be heard yelling, “Shoot me” and “I’m killing myself,” as one officer deploys a Taser. The officer who first approached the suspect can then be heard saying, “He stabbed me.”
The suspect then gets back up and appears to run away before stopping and turning around. That is when the officer who had been stabbed fires two shots.
As officers approached the suspect after the shooting, he could be heard repeatedly saying, “Kill me.”
Police say the suspect was shot in the torso and hip. The officer was stabbed in the back. Both men were taken to ECMC with injuries that were not considered to be on-life-threatening.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Erika Shields says an incident on Friday night sparked Saturday’s officer-involved shooting.
Police say the man who stabbed the officer and was then shot, allegedly stabbed a man on Friday night. They say hours after that, the same man robbed a Lyft driver and held him at knifepoint.
The following day, the girlfriend of the man who was stabbed flags police down. Police say the woman claimed that a man stabbed her boyfriend yesterday and points to him. That is when the police body camera footage begins.
Commissioner Erika Shields says she anticipates that the man will face several charges. But right now, he’s only facing a robbery charge following the Lyft driver incident.
Commissioner Shields says the two other incidents remain under investigation.
The man shot by police remains in ECMC, where he is receiving medical treatment. The officer who was stabbed was released from the hospital the same night.
