A handcuffed woman was slapped by an officer from the Nivelles-Genappe police zone in Belgium before being pushed inside a police vehicle. The images of the moment went viral on social networks and generated strong questions.
un The police intervention began because of a traffic accident that had only caused material damage. According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Valon Brabant, two people would have played the role of a resistance situation and the recorded sequence would correspond to the end of that episode.
The Prosecutor’s Office opened a judicial investigation to determine exactly what happened and whether the use of force was justified. The Inspector General of Police was also summoned to investigate the officer’s action.
The mayor of Nivelles and chief of the police area, Bernard De Ro, called the images “unacceptable” and asked for full clarification on what happened before establishing responsibilities.
