Police said the incident happened Monday when officers responded to a scene after they received reports about an unknown caller, who told dispatch he killed two people.
The department said the teenager approached the officer while “wildly swinging” a knife, according to police.
The entire blade went into the officer’s torso, officials said.
The officer, a six-year veteran of the force, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later released.
The teenager was charged with malicious wounding. His initial statements made to dispatch were determined to be false, according to police officials.
The suspect was in custody as of Tuesday.
