The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide following a shooting on Dec. 9. Officers from the West Precinct responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 6 a.m. in the 1600 block of 5th Avenue West. Upon arrival, they found an adult male unresponsive inside a vehicle parked along the curb. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
A second victim, also an adult male, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital by private vehicle for treatment. Preliminary information suggests that both individuals were seated inside the vehicle when an unknown suspect approached, fired shots into the vehicle, and fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

The deceased victim’s identity will be released once the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office notifies the next of kin. Authorities urge anyone with information about the case to contact the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Updates will be provided as they become available.
