MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A major crash involving a Montgomery ISD school bus along FM 2854 sent several students to the hospital on Thursday morning, according to district officials.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the crash temporarily closed a portion of FM 2854 at Mail Route Road as crews worked to clear the incident.
In a statement to, Montgomery ISD said all students on board the bus were evaluated.
The district stated that six students were taken to the hospital, and that two others were also taken by their parents.
“All other students were either released to their parents at the scene or transported to school on an alternate bus. We appreciate the quick and coordinated response of local law enforcement and EMS,” their statement read.

“It’s a little town, so a kid on that bus was probable friends with one of my kids,” Trevor Howard, who owns an autobody shop near the crash site, said.
Howard said he was on his way to work when his business partner sent him a photo of a Montgomery ISD school bus involved in a crash with a car.
“The whole front of that car was pretty severe,” Howard said.
DPS isn’t able to tell who is at fault yet, but did say just before 7 a.m. on Thursday morning, a Montgomery ISD school bus with 39 students on board collided with a car.
The driver of the car broke a leg and was taken to the hospital, DPS calling the injury serious. Meanwhile, Montgomery ISD says all students were checked by EMT’s at the scene. The district says paramedics took six students to the hospital, and parents took two other students. While a list of student injuries isn’t available, DPS said students were taken as a precautionary measure.
Howard said that as his town has grown in recent years, more caution is needed on the roads, though he wouldn’t describe this stretch as dangerous.
“This particular road in this spot is not very common. It’s really wide open, and you have a lot of visuals. It’s the population growth and the morning commuters from 5 a.m. to about 9 a.m. They’re all trying to get from west Montgomery County to 45 to get into Houston,” Howard said.
DPS said a mix of ages was on the bus, but they didn’t know which school they were bound for. Montgomery ISD would not answer those questions.
