Horrific bodycam footage showed the moment a heroic cop shot dead an anti-gun violence activist who was holding a large knife to a woman’s head.
Tyree Moorehead, 46, was caught by police standing over a woman with a knife in his hand at the intersection of North Fulton Avenue and West Lafayette Avenue in Baltimore on Saturday.

Footage showed Officer Zachary Rutherford arriving at the scene and calling for backup as he sees Moorehead with the blade.
‘Get down, get down,’ Rutherford screamed multiple times while pointing his gun toward Moorehead who then jumped on top of the woman and appeared to put the knife to her face.
Moorehead was shot more than a dozen times and swiftly rolled over on his back – allowing the woman to crawl away.
He remained lifeless on the floor and continued to clench the weapon as the officer shouted ‘drop the knife.’ No more shots were fired.
The activist was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The woman wasn’t injured – and police said the attack was a random act of violence.

Carton Moorehead, the activists father, was a witness to a shooting and said the number of times he was shot was unnecessary.
‘The police should not have shot him so many times,’ Carton said, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the officer’s actions were necessary.
‘We think it is clear that this officer saved this woman’s life,’ Harrison said.
Moorehead is an ex-gang member who used graffiti to designate ‘no shoot zones’ to discourage gun violence.
The activist spent 18 years in prison for second degree murder which he committed when he was 15.
