Two deputies in Columbiana County, Ohio, were injured Monday afternoon when a man assaulted them after his sentencing hearing for a prior assault.
Deputies were escorting Timothy Reaggle out of the courthouse when he broke through his handcuffs and punched one of the deputies. Reaggle then tried to escape the building, pushing past another deputy before being tased by officers just as he reached the exit. He was taken back into custody.
“It was a pretty hard hit. I was very concerned for the officer. I just tried to think fast and make sure he was OK,” said witness Leland Monte.
The sheriff said both deputies suffered broken bones but have been released from the hospital. Additional charges against Reaggle are pending.
