LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Sunday, July 19, 2026, officers were dispatched to a battery call and encountered Rock after arriving at the scene. According to the department, the dog charged toward the officer, who fired his service weapon. Rock died at the scene. Witnesses disputed the officer’s account, telling local media they did not believe the Labrador displayed aggressive behavior before it was shot. The Little Rock Police Department later released body-camera footage and stated the incident remains under review through its internal investigative process.
Following the shooting, police said Schmidt became confrontational with officers. Authorities arrested him on charges that include aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. He was booked into the Pulaski County jail. No officers or other civilians were reported injured during the incident.
