A suspected drug dealer is accused of attacking a Fairfax County Police officer during an arrest outside of an Aldi store over the weekend.
Dadrian Jegede, 23, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and possession with intent to distribute marjuana. An outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court from Prince William County was also served.
In a security video released by investigators, Jegede gets into a struggle with the officer after police said he told him to stop and tried to detain him.
He was eventually arrested with the assistance of a second officer, who was called to the scene by the officer wrestling with the suspect.
According to police, the officer tried to stop Jegede and told him to put his hands behind his back while patrolling the 8200 block of Russell Road in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County just before 3 p.m.
Friday because he smelled “distinctly of marijuana”” which therefore “established reasonable suspicion that a crime was afoot.”
Jegede initially walked away when police said the officer told him to stop, leading to the physical resisting of an arrest. Police said the officer used
“appropriate force” given the resistance of the arrest and that no injuries were reported.
Authorities said the second officer arrived after the first officer called a “Signal 1” over his radio, which is a call for immediate assistance. The officer said several people were closing in on him during the struggle with Jegede.
