
AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Amherst Police say officers shot a woman after she allegedly charged at officers with a knife.
According to police, officers responded to the Colonie Apartment Complex on Sweet Home Road around 2 p.m. on Tuesday for the report of a woman armed with a knife who was acting in a threatening manner.
During the encounter with police, the woman allegedly advanced towards officers with the knife and was shot by an officer. The woman was taken to ECMC for treatment and police said she was in stable condition. Amherst Police have not yet released her identity. No officers were injured.
Police said the shooting was captured on a body camera and the district attorney’s office was notified and will investigate.
On Monday, 7 News was at the scene of a large police presence at the same apartment complex for reports of a woman attacking people with a knife. Amherst Police told us then it was a mental health call. We do not know if these two incidents are connected.
