A suspect is in critical condition after allegedly crashing a vehicle into a lake, and menacing an officer with a knife.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday when police received reports of a vehicle crashed into Woodlawn Lake near the corner of Cincinnati Avenue and Alexander Road on the North West side.
The first officer on the scene, a woman with nine years of service with the San Antonio Park Police, observed that the suspect had driven along the walking train passing through the park before crashing out into Woodlawn Lake.
When the officer attempted to make contact with the driver, a man in his 30s allegedly exited the vehicle with a knife and began aggressively approaching the officer.

She promptly drew her service weapon and began backing away, giving the suspect repeated commands to drop the knife. The suspect allegedly continued to approach the officer.
After several commands, the officer fired several shots, striking the suspect in the torso once. He was transported to the hospital in critical, but stable condition.
It is unknown what may have led to the shooting, or what the suspect motive may have been.
According to the Bexar County Magistrate’s Office, 30-year-old Chase Deckard Thomas was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant.
The officer has been placed on administrative duty following the shooting. The San Antonio Park Police Internal Affairs Unit will be conducting an investigation.
