Surviving a school bus crash on the South Side

Students were led off of a bus from the Harlandale Independent School District after it was involved in an crash about 7:20 a.m.

Tuesday on Somerset Road just north of Gerald Avenue on the city’s South Side. Two women in a gold Pontiac Grand Prix were taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Seven special-needs students aboard the bus were checked by paramedics and were unhurt.

Police said the bus made a wide right turn as driver Elloy Guerra Sr., 60, tried to head north onto Somerset from Gerald. Investigators said they determined that the Pontiac’s driver, Kimberly Marroquin, 22, was on the wrong side of the road and could not avoid the collision. Guerra and another adult inside the bus, an aide, also weren’t hurt.
