LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The man shot by Louisville Metro Police officers while allegedly trying to carjack a woman at a Walmart pharmacy drive-thru last week made his first court appearance Thursday.
Randall Allen was in the hospital for several days before he made his initial court appearance wearing an orange jail jumpsuit with his hand bandaged.
According to court documents, Allen was a passenger in a car being chased by police around noon on Aug. 28 when the car crashed at Outer Loop and New Cut Road. The driver of the car being chased — 44-year-old Jeremy Bozarth — remained at the scene, but Allen jumped out and ran to the Walmart with a gun.

LMPD Interim Chief Paul Humphrey said Allen was inside Walmart when police arrived and found him. That’s when he ran outside and got in the passenger seat of a minivan in line at the pharmacy drive-thru.
Police ordered Allen to get out of the car several times before LMPD officer Brandon Brinkley fired several shots through the windshield, striking Allen multiple times. The woman in the minivan escaped injury.

Chief Humphrey has said it’s not clear if Allen fired at police before he was shot, and said the investigation is ongoing.
Police said that Allen had two guns and methamphetamine on him when he was arrested.
Allen faces a long list of charges including robbery, fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, resisting arrest and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Allen told the judge he intends to hire his own attorney. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
His bond was set at $100,000 full cash on Wednesday, but was lowered to $50,000 on Thursday.
Allen must remain on house arrest, if he posts bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 2.
The LMPD Public Integrity Unit is investigating the shooting. The officer who fired the shots was placed on paid administrative reassignment, which is standard operating procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting. Body camera video will be released within 10 business days, Humphrey said.
